Instructions
Preparation Steps
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the sausage. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in grated parmesan cheese until sauce is smooth and creamy.
Add cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Sprinkle chopped fresh basil over the pasta before serving.
Notes
Best served immediately with a side of garlic bread and a fresh green salad.
