Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
Add applesauce, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Fold in chopped walnuts if using.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
